Kalinda Children Home (KCH)

Executive Summary
The devastating effect of HIV/AIDS has not only claimed many people, but it has increased the number of orphans. Many of these children also face the equally demanding challenges of poverty. In an unequal society like Zambia where millions of Children have been denied sufficient care and warmth, and education opportunities to develop themselves, it is critical to put in place strategies that will enable children affected by HIV/AIDS to plan for their future, provide urgent care and warmth, develop their skills and secure a sustainable improvement of their lives and their family’s quality of life. |

Kalinda Children Home (KCH)
This project proposal seeks funding to facilitate building a house for children, sinking a borehole, providing electricity and acquiring a vehicle aimed at providing much needed relief and hope for the future of children infected or affected by HIV/AIDS. Utilising the farm land which was bought, it is hoped that a structure which will be built will be able to accommodate at least 50 orphans registered with KCH. Significantly, the project has been deliberately situated to operate within the current farm land to benefit from agriculture produce and reinforce achieving major cost sharing.
This proposal therefore seeks funding of K??? 000 for the all the activities. Once underway, future funding will be sought from both the existing donor base, additional donors supportive of children’s initiatives and sustainable farming activities, crop and livestock
KCH hopes to become a model of caring response to AIDS in the Southern Province of Zambia, providing developmental and caring support services for children who are HIV positive. Focusing on the needs of children in under-resourced, impoverished and marginalised communities, KCH will offer a holistic approach to children’s support. This will include providing children with health and education needs, family and community sensitization on children’s needs, skills training / income generation opportunities. At the same time, every aspect of KCH’s work will be complemented by education dissemination and raising awareness around HIV/AIDS.
Once established and experienced in the community and HIV sector on caring for children, KHC will be well positioned to deliver and achieve project objectives. In this way, the changing needs of children living with HIV/AIDS can be met. |
